Celebrating Student Creativity: The 2026 Edition of The NEHS Triangle

NEHS is proud to release the third volume of its annual literary journal, the NEHS Triangle, a publication celebrating the exceptional creativity and literary talent of NEHS student members from around the world. Featuring poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and drama, this year’s volume showcases the remarkable range of voices, perspectives, and artistic expression found throughout our global community.

Much like its namesake shape, symbolizing strength, connection, and balance, the Triangle reflects the Society’s mission to foster a community of readers, writers, and thinkers dedicated to the study of language and literature. Inspired by Sigma Tau Delta’s long-standing publications, the Rectangle and the Review, the Triangle affirms the importance of student voices and demonstrates that meaningful literary contributions begin long before college.

With active chapters in more than 38 countries and territories, NEHS continues to be strengthened by the diversity of experiences, cultures, and ideas represented by its members. This year’s Triangle embraces that diversity through an impressive collection of imaginative and thought-provoking works. From deeply personal reflections and compelling drama to evocative poetry and memorable stories, each piece offers a unique perspective while highlighting the universal power of literature to connect us.

The students featured in this volume demonstrate not only their exceptional writing skills but also their curiosity, empathy, creativity, and a willingness to explore the complexities of the human experience. Their work reminds us that literature can be both art and conversation, inviting readers to imagine, question, reflect, and better understand themselves and others.

At a time when the humanities are increasingly being questioned, the Triangle stands as a powerful reminder that creative expression remains essential to education and society. These young writers reveal the enduring importance of English studies and the transformative power of language. As long as NEHS members continue to create, share, and celebrate diverse voices, the future of literature will remain vibrant, meaningful, and inspiring.

Looking Forward to the 2027 Volume

In 2027, the NEHS Triangle will publish critical and analytical submissions.

Student members are invited to submit critical and analytical work of between 1,000 and 2,000 words, excluding notes and works cited. Essays are expected to adhere to the Modern Language Association style guidelines outlined in the latest edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.

Submissions for the 2027 volume will be accepted from March 22 – April 6, 2027, via NEHS AwardSpring. Find out more on the NEHS website.

National English Honor Society

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only international organization exclusively for secondary students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments. Individual secondary schools are invited to petition for a local chapter, through which individuals may be inducted into Society membership. Immediate benefits of affiliation include academic recognition, scholarship and award eligibility, and opportunities for networking with others who share enthusiasm for, and accomplishment in, the language arts.

America’s first honor society was founded in 1776, but high school students didn’t have access to such organizations for another 150 years. Since then, high school honor societies have been developed in leadership, drama, journalism, French, Spanish, mathematics, the sciences, and in various other fields, but not in English. In 2005, National English Honor Society launched and has been growing steadily since, becoming one of the largest academic societies for secondary schools.

As Joyce Carol Oates writes, “This is the time for which we have been waiting.” Or perhaps it was Shakespeare: “Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer . . .” we celebrate English studies through NEHS.

National English Honor Society accepts submissions to our blog, NEHS Museletter, from all membership categories (students, Advisors, and alumni). If you are interested in submitting a blog, please read the Suggested Guidelines on our website. Email any questions and all submissions to: submit@nehsmuseletter.us.
