NEHS understands the vital role that writing and its publication play in the educational journey of its student members and Chapter Advisors. As a result, NEHS provides numerous avenues for student and Chapter Advisor writers to showcase writing spanning a wide spectrum of literary genres and gain recognition for it. Through opportunities outlined below, NEHS not only nurtures creativity and academic growth but also empowers talented writers to share their voices with a broader audience, thereby enriching both their personal development and the literary community at large.
NEHS Museletter
NEHS Museletter, the official blog of NEHS, serves as a platform for in-depth conversation and exploration of ideas related to Society life. Museletter spotlights noteworthy activities and accomplishments by chapters and individual members, highlights Society opportunities, and offers each chapter an opportunity to showcase the unique literary landscape of their corner of the world.
NEHS accepts submissions throughout the year from all membership categories (students, Chapter Advisors, and alumni). If you are interested in submitting a blog, please review our Blog Guidelines and Submission Instructions, to check if your topic is a good fit, and to verify your article is correctly formatted.
The NEHS Triangle
The NEHS Triangle is a journal specializing in student members’ creative and critical writing. Each edition has a different focus, which submissions should reflect:
- Even years (2026, 2028, 2030): Creative writing
- Odd years (2027, 2029, 2031): Critical writing
Creative submissions must be between 1,000 and 2,000 words (total). Submissions may include short fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, or other forms of literary prose. Poetry submissions should consist of 3–5 poems, not exceeding 10 pages (or 2,000 words) in total. All submissions should be formatted according to the latest edition of the MLA Handbook, including appropriate formatting for titles, spacing, and citations (if applicable).
Critical submissions must be between 1,000 and 2,000 words, excluding notes and works cited. Essays are expected to adhere to the Modern Language Association style guidelines outlined in the latest edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.
2027 Submissions:
The NEHS Advisory Council invites critical and analytical submissions. Please refer to the critical submissions guidelines above.
All submissions must:
- Use Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced font with 1-inch margins on all sides
- Be free of typographical and grammatical errors
- Follow the style guidelines as defined in the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (latest edition)
- Include center-aligned titles no more than four lines from the top of the page
- Avoid using bold, italics, and underlining except when MLA requires
Submission dates for the 2026 edition: Mar 22 – Apr 6, 2027, via NEHS AwardSpring.
