Spring Induction and Enrollment

As we begin the new semester, many chapters will welcome new members and celebrate their induction into NEHS. The guide below provides essential information for Chapter Advisors and Officers to successfully recruit and enroll student members, manage membership fee payments, and plan meaningful induction ceremonies.

Recruiting New Student Members

Recruiting new student members is key to the success of your chapter this year. We have produced an informative poster that outlines the benefits to students of NEHS membership. It may be useful to circulate this among potential candidates along with information about chapter activities and awards, scholarships, and grants. A template application form for students is also available online.

Payment of Membership Fees

Each accepted student member must pay a one-time fee of $15. Fee reductions are available for economically disadvantaged students. Chapters Advisors should decide to whom payments must be made (usually school finance offices) and by what deadline.

Enrolling New Student Members

Enrolling student members is key to ensuring that everyone can benefit from NEHS membership. To help with this process, we have created a video tutorial that can be watched alongside the reading of our written instructions. A bulk upload option means that Chapter Advisors can upload all student names in a single file and make payment of membership fees. Please do not enroll students if you have not received their membership fees. Enrollment in the NEHS Connect system will generate an invoice that can be paid either by check or credit card. An FAQ page is available on our website to help with any NEHS Connect issues.

Digital student membership certificates will be emailed to Chapter Advisors within 72 hours of membership fee payments being received and approved.

Induction Ceremony

Induction ceremonies are a wonderful way to formally begin students’ membership. To plan and orchestrate them, we have provided a guide and sample script. Please share photos with us @englishmatters on Instagram.

Planning Activities

Our Annual Planning page provides a month-by-month breakdown of everything that is going on at NEHS. You are welcome to use this to create your own chapter calendar. Our Chapter Activities page, 20 for 20 social service project, and partnership with Little Free Library might also be of interest to you.
