This fall, NEHS is offering an array of exciting award opportunities designed to recognize and support the achievements of our outstanding members. Whether you’re a student or Advisor, there’s something for everyone!
NEHS fall opportunities for students include:
- An opportunity for student members to travel with NEHS to the UK on our first Literary Tour.
- The first of our two new Literary Artwork Contests, this one focusing on 1984.
- The new Convention Presentation Award, which will fully-fund pairs of students and their Chapter Advisor to attend our convention in Pittsburgh. Read more about the convention.
- The traditional Intellectual Freedom Challenge, offered to promote Banned Book Week 2024.
- The first round of NEHS Scholarships (focusing on Jesmyn Ward’s Sing, Unburied, Sing).
- Our poetry writing and performance Creative Challenge (based on work by Natalie Diaz).
Applications for all awards are open September 23 to October 7, 2024.
As NEHS enters its 20th anniversary year, we are also asking each of our students to complete 20 hours of social service as part of our 20 for 20 program. This might include founding (or registering) an NEHS Little Free Library.
Grants for chapters and Chapter Advisors this fall include:
- Chapter Project Grants (to support chapter-wide social service activities)
- Classroom Library Grants
- Professional Support Grants
NEHS is also working to support community literary programs and organizations through our Literacy Initiative Grant. If you know of an organization that would benefit from NEHS funding, please let me know (via email) or share this webpage with them!
