Webinar with Award-Winning Author Marguerite Sheffer

English Honor Societies is excited to invite student members and Chapter Advisors to an exclusive webinar with Marguerite Sheffer, award-winning author of The Man in the Banana Trees. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 4 p.m. (PT), 5 p.m. (MT), 6 p.m. (CT), and 7 p.m. (ET).

This free event offers a unique opportunity to hear Sheffer discuss her debut short story collection, her creative process, and pressing issues in contemporary literature.

Based in New Orleans, Sheffer is a Professor of Practice at Tulane University, where she teaches design thinking and speculative fiction as tools for social change. Her collection The Man in the Banana Trees won the 2024 Iowa Short Fiction Award and was a finalist for the PEN America/Robert W. Bingham Prize. A former high school English teacher in Oakland, she is also a founding member of several writing collectives, including Third Lantern Lit and the Brackish Artist Collective.

With an MFA from Randolph College, Sheffer has received recognition from The Adroit Journal, Glimmer Train, and the Chautauqua Janus Prize.

Registration is free and now open—but space is limited. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with one of today’s new voices in fiction.
